Favorite Lunches
Reported by: Sheyenne Casebolt
First, I interviewed Jenna Transtrum. First I asked what her favorite Lunch here at Syringa was and why this is her favorite Lunch and here is what she said, “I like mostly all of them, There all just so good and it’s hard to choose just one.” I asked if she would prefer water or milk and why she would prefer this and here is what she said
“I would prefer water over milk because I personally think that water is healthier for you and it’s also refreshing.”
Next I interviewed Rebecca Barnet. I asked her what her favorite lunch is and why, I Also asked what she would do if they decided not to serve this anymore, Here is what she said.
“My favorite Lunch Is Pizza, rolls, & apples, I like this because the pizza taste good and the rolls and apples are good for you. If they decided not to serve this anymore than I would bring my own lunch with pizza, rolls, and apples. We also asked her if she would prefer water or milk and why she would prefer this, and this is what she said.
“I would prefer water and I would prefer this because water seems refreshing and after eating I get thirsty and water helps balance the whole meal.”

Your Friendly Neighborhood Kitty Cat
By: Anonymous
As most
people in Caldwell have noticed, there’s a stray domestic cat that has
been surviving in the city limits, with all of us. Every morning as I
walk to school, Jeremy, as my family calls him, always comes and rubs
against my legs. For most people, they might think “Don’t pet him! He’s
either mean or got fleas or…..” But the truth is, is that my family took
Jeremy to the vet, and they approved him to live out on his own. He has
no collar, but also won’t be getting fleas anytime soon. Jeremy is a
dark black mixture with a dab of white on the tip of his tail. If you
ever stumble upon Jeremy, don’t be scared, he’s the nicest, yet shyest
cat I’ve ever seen. Now that’s what I call ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood
Kitty Cat’!

New Lunch Choice
By: Grace Green
A new and strange food is offered at Syringa to give students “the power of knowledge”. The lunch ladies deny rumors of drugging the students to be “smart young ones “. On October 18, 2012, the lunch ladies at Syringa Middle School offered a new lunch choice, Mystery Meat. Some students report that sometimes this mystery meat tastes sweet and light. Another student reported that he had to stay home for a week after eating barely any of this strange food. The sixth, seventh, and even the eighth graders at Syringa are creating a petition to stop the madness of The Mystery Meat Abomination.
Kidnapper at Justice
By:Grace Green
A
kidnapping at Syringa Middle School? Where has the mysterious, shady,
straight A student gone to? On a Friday afternoon, Mr. Swan reported
the shy student missing. This was a strange event because this student,
who was later known as Fred Derington, never missed a day of school in
his life.Three days later Mrs. Gomez was walking by and heard a muffled
screaming from inside the boys locker room. The janitor came and popped
open the locker where the sound was coming from and there they found
Derington, stuffed in a stinky locker filled to the rim with dirty
socks. Derington later explained, “ I was just trying to hide from Ms.
Pederson because I haven’t been bringing my cello to school. “
PAWS for the second quarter
By: Kelsey Ferro & Rebecca Barnet
For the second quarter we have a few new paws activities. Each teacher
this quarter has either continued a paws activity or chosen a new one.
Last quarter Mrs. Gomez had a geography bee and beginning Spanish paws.
This quarter she has planet Zebra. But she is still continuing SMS
helpers except it is on Tuesdays not Thursdays.
Karaoke is all week long still. On Tuesdays and Fridays Mrs. Archuleta
is doing it. On Mondays and Thursdays Mrs. Foreman is doing it. The kids
that go each week are stoked for Karaoke paws this quarter.
Mrs. Hardy and Mrs. Downing will be doing arts and crafts Mondays
through Thursdays and CFES/CAPS on Friday. Mrs. Hamby will be doing
intervention all week long.
Once again Mr. Henson will
be doing kickball, capture the flag and Frisbee golf, just on different
days. He will be having PAWS all week and kickball twice.
Mr. Yowell will be teaching a mythology PAWS. He will have it on
Mondays and will have intervention all the rest of the week. He changed
it from meditation.
Some teachers have decided less or
no PAWS. But there are some teachers that have choose more PAWS than
interventions. So it is your chose. Pick wisely not just to hang with
friends but pick intervention to bring up grades or to work on projects.
You never know when intervention will come in handy.
There are many others but that would take to long to explain so have
fun! You are getting your PAWS schedule during 3rd period on October 29, 2012. Thanks to the teachers, we have fun during PAWS!
Orchestra
By: Madison Shields-McLeish
On October 18th,
Syringa’s six, seventh, and eighth grade orchestra made a fantastic
appearance at CHS. The sixth graders played a fancy fiddle piece that
had a little twist at the end. The seventh graders played a different
version of “London Bridges Don’t Fall Down” as “Viola Bridges Don’t Fall
Down”. The big finally was the eighth graders joining forces with Jefferson’s
eighth graders playing Mountain King. Everyone did a wonderful and the
parent’s seemed to enjoy the concert. Syringa’s next orchestra concert
will be December 17th, 2012.

SMS Helpers
By: Rebecca Barnet
Syringa Middle Schoolneeds your help! Every Thursday the SMS helpers get together and take out recycling. We also wash windows, put up borders on windows and bulletin boards, and we also get to make things for the people in the office and the janitors on Valentine’s Day. Also we might be able to make trick or treating bags of candy for Halloween and little decorations for Easter. Did I mention the teacher that runs this, It’s Mrs. Gomez!
We need help, the more people we have the faster we get done and the more time we have to do more fun stuff. Also sometimes we get rewards like Texas-sized jelly beans! (they are tasty) So we need your help and if you come you might get a “treat.”

Robotics Team
By: Kat Webster
Mr. Maxton has organized an amazing team to use their noggins and build a robot to face against other schools in a race against time to build up points to win. The members include people fromJefferson andSyringaMiddle Schools. The team has to work together to engineer a robot that lifts bean bags into a trough and defend them. I went to their meeting on Wednesday and they were discussing the possible designs they could use. With limited time and resources an enormous problem stands in their way, but I know that with their brainpower and persistence they will create a robot that will smash the competition!

Monthly Horoscopes: October
Aries- There's a strong focus on being cooperative, supportive, and polite this month, but you could have difficulty turning your attention to getting along with others. Uranus is still in your sign, giving you a willful and independent spirit. You won't care what other people think, and you may act erratically. You could be involved in a passionate love affair at the start of the month, but it may not last unless you're willing to make a commitment. You can make a new start by entering into a true partnership after the New Moon in Libra on October 15.
Taurus- Venus is in Leo and your sector of home and family until October 3. This planet will help smooth over any issues, but you'll have to make an effort if you want to keep the peace. Mars is in Scorpio until October 6. During that time you could be argumentative and defensive when dealing with your partner or a member of the public. A Full Moon in your sign on October 29 will bring out your insecurities. You could overindulge if you feel down or stressed. Be careful - eating or drinking too much could compromise your health.
Gemini- You'll have a positive outlook and be open to new opportunities with Jupiter in your sign all month. It will be retrograde as of October 4, however, so you may not completely trust your instincts. Several planets and a New Moon in Libra will bring out your social and romantic side. You'll feel attractive and you'll be popular. Others will find you engaging. There will be plenty of opportunities for romance. Mars moves to Sagittarius on October 6 to bring tension and stress in your close relationships. You could be irritable and defensive with your romantic partner.
Cancer- Life at home or time spent dealing with your family will require more patience and cooperation than usual. Others might need advice or help and you may have to make yourself available. You're usually loving and caring, but some individuals might require extra attention and be a drain on your time, energy, and resources. A New Moon in Libra on October 15 will help you develop stronger people skills and the ability to create peace and harmony despite obstacles. Uranus in Aries complicates matters and brings situations where you'll have to choose between career and personal commitments.
Leo- Venus is in your sign for a few days at the beginning of the month. You'll feel attractive and be warm and affectionate with others. This planet could also bring a fleeting romantic connection with someone new. Planets and a New Moon in Libra will bring pleasant social events in your neighborhood or with your extended family. Teamwork will be involved if you're hosting a party or invited to a gathering. You may spend time with people who share your hobbies or interests. Mars is in Scorpio until October 6 and causing tension at home or with your family
Virgo- Love planet Venus moves to Virgo on October 3 to help you get along with others and be more loving and accepting of yourself. Neptune is opposite in Pisces and acting in concert with Venus to bring out compassion and empathy. All relationships should go smoothly, especially romantic ones, but you might not be realistic about your partner. Mars moves to Sagittarius on October 6 and will stir up tension at home or within your family. You could be argumentative, irritable, and demanding. Jupiter in Gemini all month will bring career options, but you could find it hard to choose among them.
Libra- Several planets in your sign will make this a memorable month. You'll feel confident, strong, and curious. You'll start new projects and have a fresh attitude. One of the planets is Saturn, however, so be cautious before jumping into anything. A New Moon in Libra on October 15 will bring out your natural talents and qualities. You'll be happy and focused on building your relationships for about a month. However, Uranus in Aries will bring a streak of independence and a desire for freedom. You'll have to balance your own interests with a need to please others.
Scorpio- Mars is in your sign until October 6, giving you plenty of energy and vitality. You'll be fearless and eager to take action and start new projects. You'll be more scattered after Mars moves to Sagittarius. Neptune in Pisces lends an emotional and spiritual connection to someone you're involved with or interested in romantically. Venus is in Leo until October 3, which means you may be perceived as charming but superficial, especially when networking for your career. A Full Moon in Taurus on October 29 could make close relationships stressful for a few days. Try not to be demanding or difficult.
Sagittarius- This will be a powerful and action-packed month for you. Mars moves to your sign on October 6. You'll be full of energy and eager to begin new projects. Several planets and a New Moon in Libra will bring a chance to socialize with friends and groups of like-minded individuals. Your get-togethers will be lively and interesting and give you a chance to catch up. You'll be popular, charming, and a good conversationalist. Jupiter in Gemini and opposite your sign could bring power struggles with your partner. Ultimately, you'll be respectful, supportive, and good to each other.
Capricorn- Pluto in your sign will continue to transform you and make you restless. Venus moves to Virgo on October 3, and you may have a chance to travel with friends or a loved one. You'll also feel creative this month. You may try to do some writing. Mars is in Scorpio for a few days at the beginning of the month, and during that time you'll be busy with friends and groups that you're involved with. Several planets in Libra will help you expand your career by networking, but you'll have to make an effort to be charming and social.
Aquarius- Venus is in Leo until October 3, bringing harmony and good vibes if you're in a relationship. You'll be passionate and affectionate with your partner. Planets and a New Moon in Libra will bring good times with friends and loved ones. You may travel together or collaborate on a project. Communication will improve and you'll share ideas and information on a regular basis. With Mars in Scorpio until October 6 and Mercury there most of the month, you can make new career connections. You must be proactive, however, and take a few risks in order to effect change.
Pisces- Neptune has moved retrograde to the cusp of your sign. You have been and will continue to be reflective. You'll have a strong need to be alone in peace and quiet. Progress will be made internally, but not so much in the outside world. You'll find it hard to focus and be productive for a while. However, this will be a highly creative time. Jupiter in Gemini could make dealing with your family difficult. You may feel overwhelmed by pressure from parents or other close relatives. Venus moves to Virgo on October 3, helping you to have good relations with your romantic partner.
